APC/CZA actively and continuously helps refugees f

APC/CZA actively and continuously helps refugees from Ukraine, from the first day of the war until today. In addition to provision of information, free legal aid & assistance, support in registration and in obtaining temporary protection, we help refugees to enjoy their right to work, to find employment, to enjoy their right to health care, to education and to other rights.

However, a very important segment of our support is the provision of humanitarian aid to all Ukrainian refugees who are in need. Humanitarian aid has proven to be crucial and often much needed for refugees to meet basic existential needs at times when they do not have enough money and other resources and when they face numerous challenges, living in a new environment, in a foreign country and without available institutional and continuous systemic support.

Asylum Protection Center provides humanitarian assistance to refugees from Ukraine to help them meet their basic life and hygienic needs, as well as helping them in the process of children's education. These items are primarily bags/school supplies, baby equipment/baby food, cosmetics/hygiene for women and children, shoes/clothing for women and children.

We deliver the same aid to refugees at their private addresses or in our regional offices in the south and north of Serbia, as well as in the offices in Belgrade.

Since the beginning of war in Ukraine, more than 142,758 citizens of Ukraine have entered Serbia. More than 1,200 people received temporary protection. Of that number, more than 300 children, as well as over 800 women received temporary protection in the country.

APC/CZA staff sharing relevant information to newly arriving refugees in our regional southern Serbia office in Presevo. Most of refugees are coming over North Macedonia and Bulgaria to Serbia from Turkey, but originating from Afghanistan, Syria, Middle East and North Africa. APC/CZA local office provides various types of relevant legal/other information, legal and psycho-social aid, being initial and almost the only hotspot where refugees can turn for support in the local southern Serbia communities. Moreover, our local teams are downloading our “Asylum in Serbia” Informative Smartphone application to refugees, where they can find relevant, proven and useful information, get in touch with us or other stakeholders, report abuse or discrimination and learn more about the asylum procedure in Serbia. From our local South Serbia regional office in Presevo, our local teams continue to visit local reception camps that are spread across southern provinces, providing support to migrants and refugees in plight (coming from different parts of the world), who are in dire need for professional and truthful help and protection in Serbia.

APC/CZA officer receiving a refugee from Ukraine in the Belgrade main office. Since the beginning of Ukrainian crisis, our organization has proved to be a strong support for the people fleeing Ukraine and staying in Serbia. At first, APC/CZA actively advocated for Ukrainians before stakeholders and in public, and pressured for the temporary protection act to be adopted. Since the beginning of the war, we have been providing our Ukrainian beneficiaries with relevant legal information and legal aid that proved to be essential in accessing registration and in receiving temporary protection status. In the next step we were supporting refugees to obtain ID cards and working permits, as well as to look for and to obtain employment. In case of need, APC/CZA social staff was looking for the private accommodation and was providing humanitarian aid and school materials to Ukrainian families and children. Finally, our holistic support enabled Ukrainian refugees to access local communities and start their integration in stead of staying in isolated camps and be dependable on scarce camp support and on uncertain living conditions.

APC/CZA pruža podršku tražiocima azila i izbelicama u zapošljavanju - organizujemo obuke i radionice sa ciljem razumevanja konteksta rada u Srbiji, pravima i mehanizmima zaštite, procene svojih veština, savetovanja sa ciljem razumevanja lokalne kulture i lakše inkluzije, pomoć u pisanju CV-a, dobijanju radne dozvole, apliciranju za posao, sarađujemo dugoročno sa poslodavcima. Monika je bila smeštena u centru za azil u Krnjači, pomogli smo joj da se iseli i boravi na privatnoj adresi, nedavno je dobila pravo na rad i uz asistenciju APC konkurisala za posao preko oglasa, prošla selekciju i dobila posao u call centru, za francusko govorno područje, u oblasti modne industrije.

APC/CZA is visiting Centre for Unaccompanied Child

APC/CZA is visiting Centre for Unaccompanied Children and Youth in city of Niš. Our team regularly visits same institution and holds children workshops of different type in order to support children-occupants who were lucky enough to get accommodated in the same place and under 24/7 attention of Centre’s social welfare professionals. At the moment, three kids are currently accommodated in this institution, a girl from Morocco and two boys from Syria and Afghanistan. The topic of today's empowering workshop was Safety on the Internet. The aim of the workshop to educate children in using extremely popular social networks in a safe and controlled manner. The kids are visibly excited and more than willing to participate. In these little ones, who have experienced so much for their age, there is always a space for positive energy and additional motivation. Still though, no one has warned them about the dangers on the Internet until now that can be numerous and inappropriate to their 'sensitive' age. Same existing risks are often linked with smuggling and human trafficking, lurking along Balkan migration routes once reaching Serbia. Thus, APC/CZA staff worked together with the guardians and Centre’s social staff to prepare and advise these kids on the safest way how to use the Internet and social networks and what to do to stay protected. The gratitude and content that can be read on their smiling faces at the end of the session is touching. The APC/CZA team is back as early as next week, to hold another workshop, entertain and teach these amazing kids, as well as those who may arrive at the Niš Centre for Unaccompanied Minors in the coming days. #children

The APC staff together with a refugee from Ukraine

The APC staff together with a refugee from Ukraine are warmly welcomed at the National Employment Service in Novi Sad. After helping her to obtain the temporary protected status and ID card, APC is helping its Ukrainian beneficiary to apply and obtain its first work permit in local Serbian community. Our organization, which provides support to refugees in the various spheres, such as legal and psycho-social aid, always places special emphasis on employment and integration of refugees into the local community. Certainly, one of the best ways to achieve sustained integration is to secure employment. In addition, our Ukrainian beneficiary is also learning Serbian language in order to steady down in a new local environment as easily and quickly as possible, which our organization wholeheartedly supports. As one of the most vulnerable groups, refugees are in dire need of help and support, which they can get from APC at any stage of their stay in local community. This also applies to contacting potential employers, helping to sign the contracts, as well as monitoring the employment process itself. Moreover, APC always strives to inform its beneficiaries properly and help them exercise their rights, whether coming from Ukraine, the Middle East, Africa or any other area. Of course, our interpreters play rather important role in the whole holistic process of APC’s local refugee support.

Asylum Protection Center provides free legal aid and assistance to Ukrainian refugees in obtaining temporary protection or in seeking asylum in Serbia.
Unfortunately, temporary protection is not available to Ukrainian refugees solely by entering and staying in Serbia. In order to exercise your rights as Ukrainian refugee in scope of temporary protection in Serbia, you need to take a number of legal steps in which lawyers of APC can help you. In addition, APC Social integration section helps Ukrainian refuges to access labor market. With our integration assistance and process of searching employers, many of asylum seekers and refugees in Serbia got employed in different positions and working places (workshops, factories, restaurants, firms, etc.) in Serbia.

The APC-CZA integration sector organized the works

The APC-CZA integration sector organized the workshop "Presenting the countries and cultures we are coming from" at the Asylum Center in Krnjača. This integration workshop was organized for the purpose of presenting and exchanging
local customs, prejudices, taboos, beliefs and other local tradition regarding Serbia and countries from which participants were coming from, so that participants can become better acquainted with the culture and way of life of the country in which they want to build their future.
Learning more about other countries’ cultural, religious, historical and traditional patterns will help refugees to better understand diversity and idea of integration through tolerance, interaction and synergy, as mutual moving process that respects difference and promotes inclusion in local communities. Participants from Pakistan, Burundi, Syria and Serbia took part in the workshop. The workshop ended with a group discussion on the biggest cultural and other challenges that asylum seekers face, while a cultural mediator together with social worker from the APC-CZA team empowered participants and gave them practical advices on how to deal with challenges and how to proceed in integration in their hosting Serbian local community.

APC/CZA in the south of Serbia is welcoming refuge

APC/CZA in the south of Serbia is welcoming refugees in our regional office in Presevo. Many families are accommodated in reception centers across Southern Serbia, and in need for psychosocial support, creative work, cultural exchange and interaction with locals. In that regard, we are involving our network of volunteers from the local communities to connect with the refugees, to share their stories, experience, to take part in creative and cultural workshops and provide humanitarian aid in order to help refugees to feel less isolated living in the camps in respective local communities.
